Check the spring frequently.
 

If the spring get broken, doubling-up or deformed, please replace it with the same model from the manufacturer.

The replace steps are as following:

Unscrew the bolts connect the inner section and the plate. Unload the plate and remove the ring of the inner section ofKelly bar.

Pull out the inner section totally.

Remove the pallet and the broken spring out of the inner section from the direction of Kelly eye.

Replace the spring and assemble the inner section into the Kelly bar.

Check the each section of Kelly bar regularly.

Fully extend the Kelly bar and clean it by water after working in the acid, alkaline or salty environment. Please clean the Kelly bar before storage.

If the Disorder extension of Kelly bar happened, we suggest to do as following:

The reason that the Kelly bar can not extend one section by one section in order are mainly crushing or blocking up. The operator should remember the error place to carry it out and repair.

Repair Steps (Take a five section friction kelly bar for example)

Unload the Kelly bar from the drill rig, place it on the open ground. Please make sure that there is enough space for the extension of Kelly bar.

Unscrew the bolts on the plate (item 3 in drawing 1), remove the plate and ring from the direction of Kelly eye (item 1 in drawing 1).

Pull out the inner section of the Kelly bar from the direction of kelly box and observe the disorder extension of Kelly bar. Rotate in 120°to make the keys matching well with the slots. Then push the sections in and pull out again to observe the disorder extension.

Pull out the forth section of Kelly bar from the third section of Kelly bar from the direction of Kelly eye. Observe the disorder extension of Kelly bar. Rotate in 120°to make the keys matching well with the slots. Then push the sections in and pull out again to observe the disorder extension.

Do the same steps for the third and second section of Kelly bar.

Repair steps for the first section of Kelly bar

Polishing and repairing the keys outside and inside of the first section

Polishing and derusting the whole section

Cleaning the whole first section and painting the surface and inner face of the section.

Repair steps for the second section of Kelly bar

If the second section is blocked up by the first section, polishing the place of block and repairing it.

Cleaning the whole second section and painting the whole section.

Repair steps for the third section to fifth section are the same.

Painting

Painting the inner sections of Kelly bar with gray alkyd antirust paint.

Painting the first section and the other parts of Kelly bar with finish coating.

Assembly of Kelly bar

Please assemble the Kelly bar in reverse order of disassemble.

Every section should be pull out and pull in and get rotated freely after assembling.

Check nuts should be replace regularly with the same model. Tightening torque of nuts is 50KG. The tighten tools could be Torque wrench or common wrench with long rod

Place the Kelly bar in the right way

Do not use the Kelly bar as a support for other cargo. Do not place the Kelly bar in the piles of rocks, pebbles, and gravel.

When place the Kelly bar horizontally, please make sure the supporting points are as per drawing 2 below. Do not chose the wrong supporting points as per the drawing 3. Or the Kelly bar would get deformed easily and then cause break down. The supporter had better to be made by wood rather than steel pipe to avoid the damage of keys.
